My passion comes from a lifetime of dog ownership and one special dog in particular. Her name was Tori. Back in 2006 I was a real estate agent out on a listing call. Everything was going as it usually did. Tour the house, meet the owners and make some friends. They had little dogs. I don’t remember what breed or how many. There were a handful of them. But, when we reached the backyard. There she was. A beautiful young German Shepherd laying there. Wasn’t concerned about me at all. That’s when I noticed she was incredibly thin. I got to talking with the parents about her. Turns out they recently moved from a farm and she became a failure to thrive situation. She was refusing food, nothing medically wrong with her. She was sad, but proud.
I knew I had to do something. The focus of the appointment shifted from getting the listing to getting Tori. I asked a lot of questions. Told them I would love to take her. Told them I could help her.
I left that day without the listing. I left with a beautiful soul that would be with me for the next 10 years. I remember our first days together. Me laying by her side attempting to hand feed her. Little by little she ate and with each bite she trusted me just a bit more. Time passed and she became the most important thing in my life while I had her. She lived to the beautiful age of 14.
From the day I brought her home I knew what made me most happy was taking care of dogs.
